The CAT theory system is mainly comprised of translation memory, terminology management etc., and it emphasizes human determination and penetrability during the whole translation process. College students often find themselves lost when studying legal English due to the unfamiliarity of words, the professionalism, integrity, seriousness and formality of legal sentence expression. Lots of universities have set up the English autonomous learning centre for general English via the supervision and test of software to investigate the autonomous learning situation of students. However, the autonomous learning of ESP, besides the initiative factors of students, teachers’ assistance and guidance factors, the establishment of the study platform and the penetration have an evident influence on the results of autonomous learning.This thesis, by fully explaining the CAT theory and software as well as the characteristics of legal English, connects with students’ autonomous learning and explores the possibility of implementing such style of autonomous learning environment in the current universities so as to create the CAT style autonomous learning environment. This thesis, not only with the perspective of the society, i.e. the benefits and connection of CAT theory and software using in the autonomous learning of legal English for college students; the actual development situation of CAT theory and software in universities, and the actual social need, but also explores the possibility of using such autonomous learning environment in colleges with quantitative and qualitative aspects, namely, students’ attitude investigation, the research of experiment as well as the further interview, case study for observation etc. Finally the result is given that using CAT theory and software in the autonomous learning of legal English for college students is beneficial and feasible. The conclusion part of this thesis further proposes the continuous research and improvement if using this theory and technology in the autonomous learningThe creative points of this thesis are:1. Propose to use CAT theory and technology in students’autonomous learning.2. Emphasize the environmental factor has the beneficial influence on the effect of students’ autonomous learning.3. Further proposes the issues and direction if making such use into reality.
