College English Curriculum Requirements(2007)suggested that students should be central roles in English teaching.Teachers' teaching and students' learning should be cleverly combined.As one of teaching reform strategies drawing much attention in academic field,learning community advocates to create equal cooperation learning environment,which is in line with the student-centered classroom teaching idea of College English Curriculum Requirements.In addition,English has large vocabularies and boring grammar,so that students' learning efficiency is not high and teaching effect is poor.Thus,learning community is one of effective ways to solve this problem.In this study,the researcher uses experimental research method to explore autonomous learning strategies and methods based on learning community environment.The application of learning community teaching model in college English classroom is the main line of this research.The writer also uses instruments such as English tests,questionnaires,learning evaluation forms,learning logs and individual interviews,which is to explore whether influences of learning community teaching model have a positive role in academic achievement,learning motivation and autonomous learning ability.On this basis,the author put forward some recommendations and strategies under learning community environment,providing some theoretical bases for effective implementation of learning community to teaching model.Basic process of the experiment is as follow: the author chooses two parallel classes with the same major of a university in Changsha for research objects.The experimental class adopts learning community teaching model for English teaching,while the control class takes the conventional teaching model.There is no significant difference between students' English level of two classes before experiment.The scores of freshman English entrance examination are pre-test,and the scores of second semester's final examination are post-test.The first questionnaires about autonomous English learning are given out before experiment.During the experiment,the researcher randomly selects several students for individual interviews and guides students to fill out some forms,such as Classroom PerformanceSelf-evaluation Form,Mutual Evaluation Form between Groups.Students are encouraged to write learning logs about their learning experience.After experiment,the researcher also gives out questionnaires about autonomous learning.In this study,the statistical software SPSS21.0 and Excel 2007 are used to do analysis about quantitative data of pre-test and post-test.At the same time,the author summarizes the qualitative words of learning evaluation forms,learning logs and interview records,which is to make supplementation for quantitative analysis results.Thus it can make the conclusion more persuasive.The research results show that:(1)Applying LCTM to English teaching is useful to promote students' English learning and improve their English grades.Analyzing the total means,each item's scores,females' scores and males' scores of two classes,we know that English grades of the experimental class are significantly higher than that of the control class after experiment.(2)Applying LCTM to English teaching is helpful to develop students' English autonomous learning consciousness,and has an important role in promoting development of students' English autonomous learning ability.After experiment,the English autonomous learning ability of students in experimental class has been improved significantly,the autonomous English learning situation of them is better than that of control class.(3)Applying LCTM to English teaching can stimulate students' enthusiasm and initiative in English study,developing students' cooperation consciousness,as well as effectively promoting English expression ability of them.After experiment,the author finds that LCTM has cultivated students' self-motivation consciousness and improved their English learning motivation.Based on above conclusions,the author thinks that experimental results of this study basically verify the hypotheses before experiment.Some teaching suggestions and inspiration are put forward in this research,which is to give some guidance for English teaching and students' English learning.
