| Raymond Carver (1938-1988) is one of the most famerous short story writers and poets. His short stories modeled on his real life and writen in a minimalist style. This unique personality narrative way caused the instability in short stories and the confusion in readers’ understanding. His short stories are praised highly by readers from all over the world because of the characteristics of seemingly minimalist but complex implication. His short stories presents a cross-section of life, and they also apparent paradoxical, or contradiction, or paradox of textual context and meaning, triggering the readers philosophical thinking about the lives, this research attempted to rely on text reading, based on the theories of contemporary cultural criticism such as Formalism, Semiotics, Structuralism, Reception aesthetics, Phenomenology, existentialism, etc. to explore the variety styles of "Paradox" which presents in Raymond Carver’s short story, and then through the analysis of significance mechanism, how the short stories set paradox, attempts to reveal the aesthetic value of the "paradox" in these short stories. On the one hand, the paper attempts to reveal the artistic features of the Raymond Carver short stories which reflect the "paradox". On one hand, this research attempts to reveal the artistic characteristics of paradox which reflected in Remond Caver’s short stories. On the other hand, try to achieve the intermediation of variety literary theory by slove these problems. |
