An Analysis On The English Translation Of Shengshengman In Terms Of Register Deviation

With the economic development, Chinese culture is gradually involved intoevery country, which influence the culture in every country all over the world. So thedesire becomes more and more fierce. Ci poem is an art in literature. The Ci poem isthe essence of culture since the Chinese ancient times. Li Qingzhao is the famouspoetess of our ancient times. Her Ci poem ShengShengMan is her outstandingmasterpiece, which attracts many scholars to study it. But most of them analyze it interms of the superficial characteristics of language or the language translation. Few ofthem apply the register deviation to analyze the Ci poem ShengShengMan translation.So this thesis analyzes the Ci poem ShengShengMan roundly. Based on the registertheory, this thesis applies the functional linguistic approach to analyze the Ci poemShengShengMan translation. By analyzing it, we get the conclusion that it existsdeviation in the three varieties, that is, field, tenor and mode. In the semantic level,which means the ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function havethe deviation in themselves. These three functions are realized by the functionalgrammar level which are transitivity, modality-mood, theme-rheme having deviations.So Ci poem ShengShengMan translation will be analyzed roundly in the perspectiveof deviation.This thesis applies the systematic functional linguistic theory to analyze the Cipoem ShengShengMan translation. The combination of theory and the qualitative wayare adopted and answer the following questions:1) what are the register deviationsfrom vocabularies and sentences in the Liqingzhao’s ShengShengMan translation?2)what’s the purpose of the register deviation in ShengShengMan translation?3) What’sthe influence of the register deviation on the translated ShengShengMan context?This thesis analyzes the Ci poem ShengShengMan translation in the perspectiveof the three varieties of register theory. The results are1) There are five types oftranslation versions to depiect the deviation of the poem. It exists deviation in the Cicontext ShengShengMan translation, in which the field deviation is realized by thechange of vocabularies and sentences. The tenor deviation is realized by the change ofthe relationship. The mode deviation is realized through the change of thecommunicative way. That any one of the varieties deviates or changes causes the change of the whole Ci context.2) In the semantic level of Ci poem ShengShengMan, that is, ideational meaning,interpersonal meaning and textual meaning deviations are realized through thetransitivity, modality-mood and theme-rheme accordingly. The transitivity deviationincludes six processes deviations: material process deviation, mental processdeviation, relational process deviation, verbal process deviation, behavioral processdeviation and existential process deviation. The modality-mood deviation is throughthe change of mood verbs. These deviations are embodied in the meanings of thetranslation poem.Li Qingzhao’s Ci poem ShengShengMan has an important significance on theChinese Ci development. So it is valuable to study it for the readers learning about it.By applying the register theory to the Ci context ShengShengMan and combining theChinese Ci context with the Halliday’s grammar theory to get the conclusion thatdifferent register deviations will generate different Ci context deviation. At the sametime, by the analysis of register deviation in the Ci context, we get the finding that itmust have some purpose and significance behind the deviation in the Ci context.
