Preposition stranding has become a hot issue at home and abroad in recentyears. Can Chinese prepositions be stranded? If can, after stranding what will happenon the properties and function of the prepositions? In order to better understandthese issues, we will research. This paper mainly introduces the nature andmotivations of the preposition stranding, and grammaticalization phenomenon closerelated to preposition stranding, such as lexicalization, relationalization, tokenization, modalization. The first chapter, mainly introduces the nature and dynamics of Prepositionstranding. Preposition stranding refers to a prepositional object appear in thesentence or the context of other position instead of directly follows the preposition, the preposition appears in the way of suspension. The motivations of prepositionstranding are mainly the economical principle of language, and the semantic salienceprinciple, the rhythm harmony principle, the structural symmetry principle. The second chapter, mainly introduces the problem of lexicalization caused bypreposition stranding. The grammaticalization or lexicalization phenomenon ofpreposition is not necessarily caused by preposition stranding, but the prepositionstranding is an agent which produces a series of grammatical problems. Such as"conglai(从来), yiji(以及), anshuo(按说), jushuo(据说)"etc, all through the process ofpreposition stranding. The third chapter, mainly introduces the problem of relationalization caused bypreposition stranding. Some prepositions after stranding show significant connectingfunction, specifically, there are two kinds of situations. A kind of situation is that dueto preposition stranding the preposition gradually became a conjunction, such as "yi(以), yong(用),yiji(以及), yibian(以便)"etc, another situation is that for prepositionstranding the preposition and its proximate composition gradually became an adverb, which has the correlation function concurrently at the same time, such as "jushuo(据说), anshuo(按说)", etc.The fourth chapter, mainly introduces the problem of tokenization caused bypreposition stranding. Some prepositions after stranding, dielectric functiongradually disappear, and start slowly evolve into functional markers, such as"gei(给)","bei(被)","jiao(叫)","rang(让)".The fifth chapter, mainly introduces the problem of modalization caused bypreposition stranding. Modalization of some prepositions enhances, and manifestsmans subjective modality after stranding, such as "jushuo(据说), anshuo(按说),lunshuo(论说)", etc.
