Charles Dickens, as we all know, was one of the most famous writers in the19thcentury. His works affected the culture deeply for hundreds of years in the UnitedKingdoms and several generation readers were attracted. He created many unfailingclassical literary female characters. According to Mitchell Slater’s statistics, Dickenscreated more than230female characters in his15novels. Female literature imageplay an important role in his novel. Dickens’s angel image is the best material to studythe Victorian time. We can learn Dickens’ enthusiastic concerns, ideals and moraltendency of women’s by analyzing the female image of dickens. And we can knowhow he criticized the darkness and the distortions through the women image he hadmade.Based on predecessor’s research achievements, this thesis is gonging to discussthe angel image in his novels, and further analysis the positive image of women,trying to explore the overall position and function of women’s in Victorian time andget a profound connotation of this sort of angel image.The essay is made up of three sections. The first section is going to discuss thecharacteristics of angel image in his novels. In this section, the feature of the beautyand the spirits of the angel image are mainly discussed. Trying to explore the socialideal of Dickens’, the second section is going to discuss the source and the importantposition of his creation of angel image in his works. In the third section, thesignificance and limitations of Dickens’ angel image creation are discussed. Trying tolearn the profound significance of the angel image creation, the element of a happyfamily and the moral instruction in his novels are analyzed. Besides, the essay alsoexplored the limitations of his angel image creation, indicating the supremacy ofreaders’ taste.
