The Research On The Shi Sou

Hu Yinglin (1551-1602), whose courtesy name is Yuanrui or Mingrui was bornin Lanxi, Zhejiang Province. Hu Yinglin also used a literary name called ShaoshiShanren. He is a poetic theoretician of accomplished scholarship in the later of theMing Dynasty. Li Weizhen, Tu Long, Wei Yunzhong, Zhao Yongxian and he werenamed “Mo Wuzi”(the last five significant poets in poets group “Hou Qizi”) whichwas part of “Hou Qizi”(the last seven significant poets group in the later of the MingDynasty). Hu Yinglin’s poetic criticism works named Shisou which has20volumes,systematically and entirely confirmed the aesthetic ideas and methodology of classicpoetry proposed by Yan Yu (a famous poetic theoretician lived in the Song Dynasty)and “QianHou Qizi”(During the early and later age of the Ming Dynasty, the poetrycircle has formed two “seven poets group” which named “Qian Qizi” and “Hou Qizi”).Shisou is a comprehensive works on classic stylistic mode and plays an important rolein the turn of poetry development in the middle and later age of the Ming Dynasty.Without doubt, a study on this significant poetic criticism works is valuable.There are lots of works, dissertations or papers on Shisou recently and many essentialpropositions on the structure of Shisou and poetry ideas have been putting forth. Theachievements about this field are all-round and deep-going. But this achievementsfocus on ideas on history of poetry, stylistic of poetry and methodology of poetrywhile neglect some independent and typical poets’ criticism in Shisou. The purpose ofthis dissertation would change the former all-around-methodology, but use closereading on the basis of the text. The paper analyses Shisou’s opinion on Age andTalent, Shisou’s opinion on Fengshen and Shenyun，Shisou’s reception and criticismof Yang Shen (a poet) to explore Hu Yinglin’s poetic criticism in Shisou. This wouldbe a new achievement on study of Hu Yinglin’s poetic criticism.The “Introduction” of this dissertation is a literary review on Shisou andindicates the achievements and inadequate field of recent studies. And then there arethree chapters as follows:“Chapter One” analyses the elements of poetrydevelopment proposed in Shisou from the perspectives of external and inner factorsand argue that poetry develops with the dual influences of the external factor “Age”and the inner factor poets’“Talent”.“Chapter Two” analyses the similarities anddifferences on the two aesthetic conceptions “Fengshen” and “Shenyun” in hismethodology and the representation of the two.“Chapter Three” analyses the Hu Yinglin’s reception and criticism in Shisou, and puts forward that Hu Yinglin who isone of “Hou Qizi”, whose poetic criticism is negative appreciation on that of YangShen who is one of anti-Hou Qizi. The interpretations that have been finished sixvolumes on Shisou·Neibian and attached to the end of dissertation as an appendix isalso a new collection and study on Shisou.
