Since the late Qing Dynasty, the traditional Chinese how to modernize has become the main melody of intellectual history of the twentieth Century. And from the beginning of the May Fourth Movement, there is another content of this theme, disconfucianism. The reason of the big change is that the intellectual elite at the time thought democracy and science as modern society’s basic values are acclimatize to China because of Chinese environment, thus there is anti-traditional, or called the New Culture Movement. In the process of transformation of the traditional China to modern China, the Confucianism has always been a focus of debate, and the Confucianism’s survival anxiety has become increasingly prominent. The new Confucianism acknowledge sage within is the foundation of king without, but not simply be regarded as direct extending. In1958, Tang Junyi, Mou Zongsan, Zhang Junmai and Xu Fuguan published the" A Manifesto on the Reappraisal of Chinese Culture:Our Joint Understanding of the Sinological Study Relating to World Cultural Outlook" and puts forward how to through a dialectical process,"It makes Chinese people not only become of its the statement about Xin and Xing and recognize its self as "the main body of moral practice", at the same time,but also understand its self as"the main body of politics"in political area,and know its self as "the main body of knowledge" and "the main body of political techniques activities" in nature and the field of knowledge."Mou Zongsan had a integrality philosophical explanation of this theory. From this perspective, Mou Zongsan’s " new king without " thought is an important part of Chinese modern intellectual history, because the essence of the problem that must be solved-traditional China how to be modernization-is fit for the main melody of Chinese modern intellectual history, and its standpoint is set out from Confucianism. Mou Zongsan’s " new king without " thought embodied in three books:"moral idealism","Philosophy of History","Governance and Cheng-tao".This article is studying the three books, aims to expound the essential meaning of Mou Zongsan’s " new king without " thought. Mou through the observation of the Confucianism development over the past two thousand years, divided the former Confucianism into two phases, and now is the third. The core of the third phase of development is how to be democracy and science. Mou lay the philosophical foundation of the doctrine of moral metaphysics, and through conscience and its self-denial gives birth to democracy,science.He solved the problem that Confucianism how to fit with the basic value of modern society at the theoretical level, and eased the Confucianism’s survival anxiety.And then, Mou Zongsan proposed the statement of jointly build about Tao tradition,Knowledge tradition and Political tradition on the foundation of reflection about Chinese traditional Governance and investigation about political thought at the reality expand between Confucian tradition and western. Thus, the " new king without " thought has entrusted with the possibility in the realistic level. Mou Zongsan’s " new king without " thought eased the Confucianism’s survival anxiety, active in the Confucianism, however, it lack the necessary review of basic value of modern society. This article is based on the above two points to analyze and comment on Mou Zongsan’s " new king without" thought.
