A Study On The Present Use Situation Of Tai Lue On The Signage In Towns Of Xishuangbanna

To investigate the present using situation about minority language is an important part of the work of minority language. The standardization of minority language is an important part of the modernization work of China’s minority language and also the basis for promoting the national language’s information construction. Xishuangbanna Tai Lue has a long history and it plays an important role in the inheritance and development of the splendid history and culture of Dai. However, the author found that there is no monographic study on the use situation of Xishuangbanna Tai Lue after researching and analyzing the present data on it. Therefore, this paper selects the Tai Lue on the signage in towns of Xishuangbanna Dai area as the research object. Obtained rich materials through field investigation and combined with basic knowledge of Dai language, the author does a detailed description and analysis of the use status of Tai Lue in the signage. At the same time, the author studied the non-standardized usages of Tai Lue in the signage, and explored the reasons of them. Based on that, the author tried to explore some measures to promote standard use of Tai Lue in the signage. This dissertation consists of five parts:The introduction part mainly introduced the topic origin, research purpose, research significance, research methods and innovations of this thesis.Chapter one begins with a brief introduction of Xishuangbanna Tai Lue’s history, Tai Lue’s using status in towns and villages of Xishuangbanna area, and the condition of Xishuangbanna Dai language work. This part also compares the New Tai Lue with the Old Tai Lue through the four aspects of initial symbols, final symbols, tone symbols and written forms. What’s more, from the point of view of the voice contrast and Jinghong Dai language dialect as the standard pronunciation of Xishuangbanna Tai Lue, the author also compared Xishuangbanna Tai Lue with mandarin and Jinghong Chinese dialect through the aspects of sound, rhyme and tone.Chapter two makes a detailed description of the present use situation of Tai Lue on the signage in towns of Xishuangbanna, after classificating, counting and analyzing the signage materials from fieldwork。Firstly, brieffly analyzes the ways of signage making. Secondly, types the signage and does aggregate statistics and classification statistics of single writing signage and double writing signage. Thirdly, does a detailed classification and descriptive analysis about the wrong use of Tai Lue on the signage, mainly from the content corresponding situation of Tai Lue and Chinese, Tai Lue translation, Tai Lue letters, and corresponding order of Tai Lue and Chinese.Chapter three is an exploration for the standardized use of Tai Lue on the signage in towns of Xishuangbanna Dai area. Firstly, a brief summary of the existing problems in the use of Tai Lue on the signage is made. And then analyzes some reasons of the un-standardized use phenomenons, which mainly include lack of signage translation and production standard, low-level Dai language information construction, short of professional translators and institutions, lack of awareness of standardized use of Tai Lue, and no perfect legal system of minority language. Finally, based on the status and reasons, explores out some effective measures for promoting the standardized use of Tai Lue on the signage.Chapter four briefly summarizes the whole paper, and presents the inadequacies and the need for further research.
