On The Description Of Love In Margaret Duras’ Works

Margaret Duras is a French contemporary famous novelists, playwrights and film artistswhose masterpiece "LOVER" won France’s Prix Goncourt. In Duras’ nearly fifty years ofwriting career, a lot of excellent works were created among which many were adapted intofilms. Love remained to be the most important theme of her works and because of this thedescription of love turned out to be the most distinct feature. It not only rendered delicatelythe spiritual life of roles in the works but also disclosed scrupulously the thought struggle andtortuous mind vividly through concrete love encounters. This paper aims to probe into theway women and men expressed their love and the meaning of voicing it and then to furtherbring the modern peoples’ difficulties into living and making choices about the destiny oflove.The introduction, main body and conclusion formed into this dissertation. Theintroduction was focused on Duras’creation and the study status of her works and put forwardthe purpose and meaning of this dissertation. The first chapter expounded Duras’love life andthe relation between it and her works in order to reveal the unique features and significance ofthe love in her works by probing into the writer’s own love experience. The second chapterwas contributed into the narration of love to uncover the conflict and harmony of love inDuras’ works aiming to studying how she rendered the complexity of love conflicts and thefusion of values. Being a woman, Duras intensified from woman’s point the female’s plightand struggle in love. The third chapter was mainly on the explanation and analysis on loveaffairs in the works and proposed the standpoint that it was open and closed dialoguecircumstances that led to diverse love meanings in her works. That the two sexes’dialogues indifferent circumstances, communication and quest was not only the painstaking expression oftheir respective love but also the show of Duras’unique narration of love.In conclusion, Duras’ way of love narration was worthy of so many efforts done todisclose its meaning. This paper tried its best to disclose the unique meaning of love narrationin Duras’works and aimed to push forward the further study on her works in hopes of helpingher works to be understood more precisely and comprehensively.
