On Yunnan’s Post-80s Painters

In China, a unique artistic expression of the post-80s painters has been emerged in thehistorical background of the last30years. This thesis, based on a review of the artdevelopment in Yunnan, introduces the group image of Yunnan’s post-80s painters. With thedevelopment of modern art, painters in Yunnan have eventually grown to be a large groupwith high artistic standards. For the reason of specific historical background, distinct regionalenvironment, and diversified ethnic culture traditions, Yunnan’s post-80s painters have theirown unique artistic expressions showed to the public.Nowadays, in Yunnan, post-60s painters are still the mainstays of Yunnan’s modern art, andpost-70s has also been accepted into the society with great influences. Painters of post-80s, asa newly emerged power, have just entered into the spotlight with their own achievements.Nevertheless, their knowing to the public is still to be advanced and the reviews and critics ontheir works are also rare to be seen. And there is no full review on the post-80s as a group.This thesis, analyzes Yunnan’s post-80s painters through their birth, education, living, artisticactivities, painting creation and the connections and differences with the older generationpainters. The research reflects the unique artistic characteristics and individualizedexpressions of post-80s painters as well as their contributions and artistic values on Yunnanand national modern art.
