Abstract: This thesis mainly discusses the spread and influence of the western Europe trend of thought in naturalism literature in china round about 1920s and the main difference between chinese and Japanese naturalism literature. The thesis Considers that, in china of twentieth century, it was Chen Duxiu that first mentiened the trend of thought in naturalism literature, it was Hu yuzi that first in- troduced the theory of naturalism literature in a special and systematic way, it was Mao Dun that played an important role in introduction and advocate of naturalism in china. The influence of naturalism towards the chinese modem literature mainly embodied in the creative works of MacDun , Yu Dafu,Shen Congwen , BaJin and some other writers, ct . There were great differences between chinese and Japanese naturalism Lterature: The trend of thought in naturalism literature formed in Japan, but not in china. Natural- ism replaced realism in Japan , but tried to be a supplement to realism in china. There was a different understanding on reality and objectivity which were emphasised in natu- ralism . There was a serious difference on the view of human nature in naturalism. Both layed particular stress on individual subject matter, Which was different in the aspects.
