The unique artistic language of black white woodcut in visual features as well as the perception of the viewer provide a wonderful experience to viwers. Then analyzing the relationship between the black and white woodcuts and Chinese painting conclue that China has unique concept of color which support the background of the following passage.Secondly I summed up the history and development of the ancient black and white woodcutfeatures as well as the black and white color rendering in the ancient painting to point out theperceived limitations as the subsidiary function of a book album.Thirdly with the outbreak of the woodcut black and white the engraved prints has broke theway from ancient black and white woodcut as the purpose of explaining a book. But it built adependent role to express its own aesthetic value.
