Schubert, one of the founders of music school of Romanticism, is referred to as the founder of modern art songs with more than600art songs composed in his lifetime. From the perspective of aesthetics, the thesis analyzes and researches the masterpiece of Schubert’s art songs——to chant on the river——from such aspects as the beauty of language, rhythmic beauty, poetic imagery beauty, as well as the beauty of melody and instrumental music beauty. The thesis also summarized the creative features of Schubert art songs reflected in "to chant on the river":the musical form structure of the sub-section song, the piano accompaniment with description, the alternation between natural minor, harmonic minor, and the major and minor of the same vocal tone, and the same rhythm accompaniment continuously repeating in the whole song. Meanwhile, the thesis interprets artistic value and status of art song "to chant on the river" through analyzing "to chant on the river—barcarole" transcribed by Liszt, a Hungarian pianist, composer, arranger.
