The Legitimate Land Reform Narration Under The Mode Of ’Revenge---Requite Favors’

This dissertation tries to demonstrate the rationality and inevitability of Land Reform Movement under the mode of ’revenge---requite favors’, adopted by Zhou Libo and Ding Ling as narration pattern. In the’revenge’mode, the landlord class, existed as class politics’enemy, is shaped into the’enemy’of folk ethical order, who is ugly and morally evil. Poor peasants and farm laborers are shaped into righteous’avengers’, who on behalf of rural moral ideal, have suffered bitterly in the old society with deep class hatred. The class struggle, between landlord class and poor peasants and farm laborers class, evolves into’revenge’story in ethical discourse. Under the’requite favors’pattern, Land Reform Movement working teams, as strange intruders at the beginning, become holy’benefactors’who change the political and economic fate of poor peasants and farm laborers. On the ethical level, the degenerate in politics is criticized while the advancer is praised, through the process of abandoning ’those who fail to pay a debt of gratitude’ and praising’those who requite favors’. The political behavior that the Communist Party of China mobilizes young farmers to join the army and fight in the war is described as a spontaneous and self-conscious action started by farmers for requiting favors. Under the mode of’revenge---requite favors’, the essence of legitimate land reform narration is the fusing of political discourse and ethical discourse. The authors offer ethical supports for class politics, in the mean time, causing utterance deficiency for themselves as intellectuals. First of all, proper critique on the phenomenon that peasants bow in worshiping political power and its leaders is missing. Secondly, they neglect to further consider what is the root cause of rascal culture’s existence and its harm. At last, in the historical context of intellectual transformation, they are anxious to seek convert-to-party-politics self-expression, through’changing the intellectuals’.
