| This thesis aims to discuss the translation of children’s literature from the perspective of Skopostheorie. In order to provide good literature for children, the translation of foreign children’s literature is indispensable. The Skopos determines a translation action which can be said to be "the end justifies the means". Translators are endowed with the right to freely choose the translation strategies in accordance with the intended purpose. When translating the children’s literature, translators should take the specialty of children’s literature as well as translation purpose into consideration so as to seek the appropriate ways to translate children’s literature. With a case study of two Chinese translation versions of Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, the choice of words for understanding the cultural context is analyzed, which includes the names of character, the names of spells, chapter titles and some notes; the ways of translating turns of expression are discussed, which consist of the way of making translation vivid, simple and achieving good sound effect in songs; the illustration of translating the words in illustrations is not neglected. The study finds if the translator can keep translation purpose and the target readers in mind so as to adopt the appropriate translation strategies in translation, he may do a better job. |
