Works of Carson McCullers are always popular with readers, but in the academic field, they never gain the recognition they deserve. One of the reasons is, the focus of their comments is always limited to the theme and the content, and the style receives relatively deficient attention. Another reason lies in the fact that a few critics who recognize the former point, however, devote themselves to the structure of fugue, and rarely carry out any new study on the style. This thesis makes an analysis of soundscape, a completely new aspect of the style of McCullers’ works. Through a systematic study of the variety, rhetorical functions, and uniqueness of the soundscapes in McCullers’ works, it attempts to dig out the value of this new feature.
