| Based on the case analyses of typical expressions or texts from Directory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Fujian published by Provincial Department of Culture in2008and discussion of the features and functions of intangible cultural heritages (ICH), this paper points out that culture-loaded expressions and text features pose main difficulties in the English translation of ICH. Pragmatic equivalent perspective on translation, which stresses the correct understanding of the source message and the appropriateness and acceptability of the target message, can be taken as pragmalinguistic equivalence and sociopragmatic equivalence. With the guidance of pragmatic equivalence, the author concludes that cultural elements can be skillfully translated and accepted by the target readers, attaining the goal of communicating.With thorough analyses of and probe into ICH texts, the author proposes several translation principles and strategies in the hope of enlightening related publicity-oriented ICH translation in the future. |
