A Report On The Translation Of Roderick Hudson(Chapter7)

This thesis is a translation rapport on Roderick Hudson. Roderick Hudson is a novel by HenryJames. It is a bildungsroman that traces the development of the title character, a sculptor.This consists of four parts. The first part is a brief introduction of the translation task.The second part is translation process, including pre-translation preparation, the firsttranslation and its modifications. Following is translation cases analyses, which aim to get amuch more proper translation of each case. The last part is a summary, which will beconcerned about the author reflections on this translation task. This translation report uses theYan Fu’s translation theory as the translation standard, which is a significant standard fortranslation and guides us how to translate a literary text.In literary translation, the translator isexpected to transfer not only the message of the source text but also the specific way themessage is expressed in the source language. The translated text should also be a work of artas the source text, and it also should represent the literary genre, artistic value and linguisticbeauty of the source text. The translators should be well cultured in literature and expert inwording, also should be well understood the source text and its genre, and make use of ourown ability and creativeness, so that we can achieve a high-quality translation.
