Research On Pipa Concerto"Little Sisters Of The Grassland"and It’s Performance Art

The Little Sisters of the Grassland has left a great influence in Chinese contemporary music history. As the first ever concerto composed for Pipa, it uses the genre in which a Chinese instrument is co-operated with the western orchestra for the first time. The concerto builds up a colorful musical world with its unique artistic style and technical language.This dissertation interprets the concerto’s meaning, value and historical influence in the literature of Pipa music. The author analyses its artistic speciality along with its performance aspects, and gives a deep reading of its key passages with the angle of instrumental performing artistry. Therefore, the way of communication between the Pipa and the orchestra can be explored.
