The Study On The Cirtic Thought About Monetary Silverization In Late-Ming Dynasty

The Monetary history of Ming dynasty is always a focus in the study of Mingdynasty,and the Monetary Silverization is one section of the most important part ofthe study about Monetary history of Ming dynasty. Monetary Silverization means thatSilver gradually becomes standard currency in circulation field in Mingdynasty,which has brought the huge impact in Late-Ming-dynasty society,so many ofintellectuals in the Late-Ming dynasty have put forward the claim against theMonetary Silverization,from the thought “Value coins and Disvalue silver” in theperiod between Jiajing and Longqing to the thought “Abandon silver and use coins”onthe the border of the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty. This article mainly investigatesthe Critical Thoughts about the Monetary Silverization in the late-Ming dynasty fromthe perspective of monetary history,and is made up of four parts as follows:The first part mainly introduces the money and the change of monetary system inMing dynasty. The currency of Ming dynasty includes: Ming Baochao, Coins andSilver; In Ming dynasty, the changes of the monetary system according to thecharacteristic class is divided into four stages,which just reflects the complete processof the Monetary Silverization.The second part mainly introduces the Critical thoughts about the MonetarySilverization in the late-Ming dynasty,which is devided into two section as follows:The first stage, this paper studies the thought of “Value Coins and Disvalue Silver” inthe period between Jiajing and Longqing, through discussing the Moneytary thoughtof He Liangjun,Tan Lun, Jin Xue yan, Guo Zizhang;The second stage recommendsthe thought of “Abandon Silver and Use Coins”on the the border of the Ming dynastyand Qing dynasties,through expounding the Moneytary thought of Huang Zongxi,GuYanwu and Wang Fuzhi.The third part analysis the reason that why became the Critical thoughts aboutthe Monetary Silverization in the late-Ming-dynasty.One side, because of the seriousfinancial crisis in the government appearing on the time after the Jiajing of theMing-dynasty,Many intellectuals in the Late-Ming dynasty frequently summary thegain and loss about the monetary system of Ming dynasty,they suggest increasingcasting coins, rectifying the coins policy, improving the status of copper cash in circulation.The second side, the Monetary Silverization indeed has brought greattrauma to the Late-Ming dynasty society. From the Ming dynasty governmentperspective, the Monetary Silverization leads to the Ming dynasty government almostlost the casting coins right and reduce the national finance income; From the view ofthe people’s livelihood, the Taxation Silverization brought great harm to the people,the tael form of the silver also has restricted the economic activities,and because ofthe high value characteristics,silver made the social atmosphere become worse.The fourth part analysis the effect of the Critical thoughts about the MonetarySilverization and how to treat it.It has affected the Ming dynasty governmentmonetary policy, The Ming dynasty Ming government payed more attention to CoinsCasting and rectifiesd the Coins policy,at the same time, It has had a significantimpact on the Qing dynasty monetary thought, the thought “Abandon silver and usecoins” was approved by many intellectuals in the early period of Qing dynasty. TheCritical thoughts about the Monetary Silverization which appeared in the Late-Mingdynasty factly and included a lot of reasonable Suggestions, is due to that theMonetary Silverization brought huge impact on the Late-Ming dynasty society, is theself-examination of monetary system of the Ming dynasty.
