With the augmentation of the Guangxi economic strength, Chinese fervor is booming all over the world, as a result, there are more and more international students learning Chinese in Guangxi. One of the main tasks for the second language teaching is to cultivate students’ intercultural communicative competence. As one of the ethnic minority areas in China, Guangxi’s cultural environment displays a unique ethnic characteristic. That said, it is of certain practical significance and practical value to the empirical research of intercultural communicative competence in teaching Chinese as second language in Guangxi.There are150international students from Guangxi University and Guangxi Medical University participating in the questionnaire survey. A research method which combines quantitative and qualitative analysis is adopted. Cross-cultural adaptation, cross-cultural awareness, intercultural communicative attitudes, intercultural communicative skills and cross-cultural knowledge are included in the questionnaire survey and individual interview. The survey dates are analyzed by SPSS software, including reliability analysis, means, modal, frequency, correlation and contingency tables. What’s more, results of individual interviews are put in order. The research indicates that although the gap of intercultural communicative competence between foreign students is not significant, it reveals the general level of intercultural communicative competence is not high. According to the research, there are some issues needed to take into account in teaching Chinese as a second language. For example, students fail to put the cultural knowledge into communicative competence, and they focus on the HSK excessively. Besides, the teaching methods are monolithic to some extent. In order to solve the existing problems, this paper generates some relevant countermeasures in such areas as teaching methods, testing and training. By designing and practicing the instruction from a cross-cultural perspective. Finally, the research provides some advices to teachers, study materials, teaching practice and students respectively.
