Palace Poem is a special section of the ancient Chinese poetry which set the impe-rial harem, the daily life of harem’s female dwellers and their gamut of feelings as itseternal motif is. The spectrum of its stories cover a wide range from the emperor’s no-rmal life to the palace rules, history and anecdote. All these stories were collected an-d gathered by the poets themselves to guarantee a vivid description. Due to its specific-ity, the Palace Poem can be regarded as an extra source to cover the blank of officialhistory records.Among the history of Palace Poem, Zhuquan is quite special and outstanding cha-racter. He was born in1378as the17th son of the Ming Dynasty’s founding emperorZhuyuanzhang. Known as the virtuous king, Zhuquan was an famous literati from theimperial families who obtained great achievements on the fields of Taoism, literature,tea ceremony and, of course, music. His masterpieces of <Micaculous Secret Tablatu-re of the Qin> and <Taizheng Tablature of Orthoepy> are all be acknowledged as mil-estones of the Chinese musical history. He also dedicated a lot for the Palace Poem w-ith totally one hundred and seven works. In today’s seventies survivors, still about on-e third can be used as musicology’s research material.In this dissertation, I would like to follow the trace of Zhuquan’s22palace poem-s to discuss their musical value from a musician angle; and to revalue its importance for understanding the life and music of the royal court of the Ming Dynasty...
