The Research Of Symbol Narrative In The Root-searching Novels In New Period

The root-searching novels in new period creatively applied the western symbolic theory into the creation of the novel,which not only enhanced the morden consciousness of the novels,brought the innovation of techniques and concepts in creation for Chinese novels,but also led to the spiritual converts in Chinese contemporary literature,marks a real awakening of the Chinese writers aesthetic consciousness. The combination of root-searching novels and symbol narrative is not only a reflection of Chinese novels learn from western literary theories in the1980s’ ideological emancipation,and a contradiction towards the imitaion of the western modernists’ creative thinking,but the pursuit of Chinese writers’ self-conscious of styles and artistic innovation. The research of symbol narrative in the root-searching novels in new period,is good for us to understand better of the1980’s conditions of Chinese literature and social status,and also have a certain guiding significance of the present wirter’s novel creation.The research of symbol narrative in the root-searching novels in new period has achieved fruitful results,however,the overall grasp of studies in symbol perspective have not yet been reported. The paper is based on the absorption of research findings, the close reading of texts and comparative study are used to dig the deep connotaion,dicuss its symbol narrative skills and the aesthetic dimensions on the whole.This paper is divided into four chapters.The opening chapter sets the concept of root-searching novels in new period and expounds its background and processes.Then defining the scope of symbol study via distinguishing symbol from symbolism and the employment of symbilism in novels. In the end,analysising the generated background of symbol narrative in root-searching and summing up its morphological characteristics.The second chapter discusses the forms of symbol narrative in root-searching novels.Based on the close reading of the texts,to classify symbolic images into image of things,objects and colors,meanwhile,to summarize three different forms of narrative,which contains the whole symbol,structural symbol and the details of symbol.The third chapter deals with the narrative strategy of root-searching novels.To compare the root-searching novels in new period with the Latin American magic realism novels from a synchronic and a diachronic viewpoint.By contrasting the internal thoughts and external forms,the paper comes to a conclusion of three main symbol narrative strategies—mythical thinking mode,national allegory perspective and magic realism.The last chapter expounds the aesthetic tendency of the root-searching novels in new period.Through the analysis of languages,images and structures,we can conclude that the aesthetic dimensions in symbol narrative mean a gossamer beauty,philosophy beauty and gossamer beauty.
