Visual communication design is a category of the modern design, and its scopeis very broad, covering all aspects of public life’s material needs and spiritual needs.The goal of visual communication designer’s creation is to use specific languagesymbols to disseminate information needed to be transferred to the audience. Withthe rapid social development, our daily life has new changes, and more diverse andinnovative visual communication design has become more and more important. With thecontinuous progress of science and technology, the development road of visualcommunication design has been broadened. Especially in the information society,the digital media, with computer and network as the representatives, gives visualcommunication design more form and emotional expression space, and at the same time,new challenges are put forwarded. Diverse propagation characteristics have enriched thenew environment of visual communication design, so people are used to be surrounded by avisual image, used to under the influence of visual image, and the audience’s way of life,consumption demand, value concept is undergoing tremendous changes.The commemorative design is a kind of design closely related to humanactivities and society, and it is in harmony with the overall environment of cities,and with the pace of social development. Analyzing and dealing with the relationshipof mutual integration traditional elements and new elements, combining with visualcommunication related knowledge and practice, preserving collective memory andpersonal emotion while embodying humanistic spirit, keeping the balance ofmacroscopic commemorative significance and humanistic emotion description, thusintegrating commemorative design adapted to the pulse of the times, this has someguiding significance to our practice of visual communication design, making ushave a more profound understanding of use of visual communication incommemorative design and the future development trend.In this thesis, through a series of design for commemorative festivals, majorsocial activities and events, analysis on design including souvenirs, posters,anniversary celebration, exhibition space, the soul of memorial design is of specialhumanity, meeting people’s spiritual needs. The design can provide people with significative and valuable thinking and memory. But visual communication designand visual thinking related theories in our country are mostly transplanted fromwestern countries, the social and historical background related to theory researchare different from today’s society development existed in China, and most ofpublications on visual communication design tend to production skills andexpression forms. This thesis aims to explore related theories in the visualcommunication design, study on the of creation thinking way and emotional needsin memorial design, to find out the cross coincidence on the propagation carrierbetween the two, to re-examine the relationship between design of visualcommunication and audience’s visual psychology, so as to develop more designideas in theory of visual communication, in the new background there is also apractical significance.
