Guimeng Lu, with the character Luwang, from Wu County (Suzhou, Jiangsu),is famous for a excellent writer between late Tang Dynasty in the field of poetry andan eminent hermit in the South of China. He was well-born and full of ambitions, buthe didn’t enter politics all his life. He put himself in general all corners of the countryafter feeling official hopeless, and he lived in seclusion in the coast of Taihu Lake inSuzhou, with poems, books, tea, wine and farming by himself. He was calledjianghusanren or Tiansuizi. He was ipsative FuWeng, fisherman and so on. With thelater reputation of "profound scholar ", noble character and poetic life style, he wasadmired by later literati from generation to generation.This paper aims at analyzing Guimeng Lu’s life and family background,aspiration and interests as well as the origin of his living in seclusion. From hisfamily background and the whole experience of life, it is assured that he did not havea long-time seclusion. However, he is famous for that, which really deserves furtherstudy. With the paradox as entry point, this paper focuses on the research ofGuimeng Lu’s official career and unique seclusive style, comparing with the"best-known permit from old through now" Yuanming Tao’s reclusion, and analyzethe unique feature and origin of seclusion of Guimeng Lu.The paper placed GuimengLu’s reclusion in the history ancient hermit literature to explore the profoundmeaning of cultural history.This paper mainly consists of five parts.The first part is introduction.
