Research On Barrier-free Direction Sign System Design For Overground Spaces Of City Subway

With the continuous improvement of the municipal infrastructure construction,especially the barrier-free design, it plays an increasing important role in cityconstruction. However, the short of barrier-free direction sign system design hinderpeople’s ability to participate in society and the desire of blending into society, whohave difficulty in recognizing directions. The main purpose of this paper is analyzingbarrier people’s walking, understanding their characteristics and getting the reason oforiented information obstacle to help them get the information and go ahead. Theaim of this paper is to build a set of complete research system about the mutualimprovement between barrier-free design of direction sign and urban spaces, to helpbarrier people finish their walking smoothly and at the same time to provide theoreticalsupport for the development of barrier-free design of direction sign system.The main research ways of this paper are analyzing urban spaces, using themethod of cognitive and addressing map, studying people’s pathfinding behaviour andthe barrier people’s height scale with the standards of ergonomics and designing a morehumanized direction sign system under the instructions of semiology and the relatedtheories of direction sign system to help these barrier people. Through the investigationfor the sites of city subways, we could understand the actual situation of these sites，provide meaningful practical datas for the practical application on the overgroundspaces of subway sites and help barrier people finish their pathfinding. Based on theoverground spaces of Nanshaomen, Xi ’an Metro Line2, through practical researchmethods, with practical cases, this paper will find the actual problems of urban publicspaces, the flaws in direction sign system design and the problems in people’s travel.Through the summary and analysis for these problems, in the way of direction signsystem design, we should blend our concern about barrier people in the system to makeit better and more humanized, to make the urban circumstance more complete and tohave the barrier people pass the blocks in cities and then reach each spot of these cities.
