Study On The Relations Between Ancient Villages And The Protection Of Historical And Cultural Cities

It has been over30for the selection of historical and cultural cities in China andremarkable achievements have been made in the city protection. At the same time ofsumming up the successful experience, we should also see the various challenges in theprotection work in the context of a different era. Currently, the destructions on the famouscities come from the process of protection and construction. The extensive city transformationhas damaged the historical and cultural patterns of cities. The excessive tourism developmenthas brought destruction to the urban heritage. Tremendous changes have taken place witheach passing day in the historical and cultural cities with the development of local economyand promotion of the urban construction. We are facing various problems that are to be solved.To this end, this paper aims to put forward constructive ideas in the protection of historicaland cultural cities from the points of view of cultural relics’ protection, urban planning andconstruction and resources utilization."Ancient village" is more than a concept of physical space. It contains a rich and far-reaching cultural property. The core values of the ancient village lies in the respect for thenatural environment, the pragmatic spirit in real life, the flexibility in the development overtime and the compatibility with different cultures, hence to achieve the organic recycle andsustainable development. Therefore, the ancient village is the telling witness of theharmonious coexistence between people and nature over thousands of years and it’s in linewith the law of development of the ecological system. Much experience can be drawn for theprotection of historical and cultural cities.In this paper, the main point was to explore the relationship between the ancient villageand historical and cultural city protection. Through field researches and literature analysis, the wisdom was summed up about the environmental selection, the construction of houses andvillages culture of ancient villages. Considering the domestic and international treaties,regulations and philosophies in the protection of history and cultural cities, the gains andlosses of the Xi’an historical and cultural city protection were analyzed. The dilemma andcrisis of historical cities were highlighted under the background of modernization. Themeanings and values of the construction wisdom of the ancient villages to historical citiesprotection were verified through practical cases. It was put forward to build Xi’an to be alivable city" and "quality city", providing a new perspective and a novel way of thinking inthe protection of the historical and cultural cities.
