With the rapid development of globalization and internationalization, English plays more and moreimportant role in the global communication as an international language. At present, many experts andscholars in China believe that the main goal of foreign language teaching (FLT) in China is thedevelopment of cross-cultural communication competence. The intercultural communication refers to thepeople with the different cultural background speak to each other with the same kind of language (mothertongue or target language) of the oral communication in the specific communicative situation. Moreover,the cross-cultural communication is an equal and two-way exchange of different cultures. It refers to notonly the cultural communication of the target language, but also the cultural communication of the nativelanguage. However, in China, the teachers and scholars have been emphasizing western culture teaching,but Chinese culture teaching has been neglected for the long time in the college English teaching.Nowadays, the college English teaching materials are almost used by the100%teaching materials of thetarget language culture, Chinese native culture related materials are rarely chosen in the college Englishclass in China, resulting in “Chinese Culture Aphasia”.Based on the present situation, the thesis is mainly discussed the three questions:(1) Does thephenomenon of “Chinese Culture Aphasia” exist in college English teaching?(2) Can the cross-culturecommunication capacity of students be improved by integrating Chinese culture teaching in the collegeEnglish class?(3) Can the English learning interest of students be improved by integrating Chinese cultureteaching in the college English class? The thesis regarded60TCFL major college sophomores in NorthwestNormal University as the subjects, used the pre-test, post-test, questionnaires, interview and videotaping,conducted the integrating Chinese culture teaching in the college English class in the present empiricalstudy. The statistical analysis was conducted through the SPSS13.0. The results are as follows:(1) The phenomenon of “Chinese Culture Aphasia” does exist in college English teaching and the extent oftheir aphasia of Chinese culture is serious and worrying.(2) The cross-culture communication capacity of students can be improved by integrating Chinese cultureteaching in the college English class.(3) The English learning interest of students can be improved by integrating Chinese culture teaching in thecollege English class.Finally, based on this study, the some future teaching enlightenments of integrating Chinese culture in the college English teaching in China are: the design of cultural teaching syllabus, the setting up ofcurriculum, the compilation of textbook, targeted test and the improving of teachers’ cultural literacy and soon.
