After learning English for more than ten years,Chinese college students have many difficulties when they need to communicate with foreigners about Chinese culture.Chinese Cultural Aphasia refers to the situation in which students cannot express Chinese culture because they lack Chinese Culture knowledge or they don’t know the English expression.Based on Intercultural Communication Theory and Cultural Schema Theory,this study is intends to conduct a survey on Chinese cultural aphasia in College English Teaching.150 subjects were involved in this research,all of which participated in the vocabulary test and questionnaire survey.All valid data collected in the study were statistically analyzed by SPSSAU.This study mainly focuses on the following four research questions:(1)What’s the general level of the ability to express Chinese culture in English of college students?(2)What’s the students’ attitude toward Chinese Culture?(3)What’s the current status of cultural teaching in college English teaching?(4)What’s the general level of intercultural communication competence?The findings of the study are as follows:(1)The English expression of Chinese culture is very limited,and its coverage is narrow.It is only limited to the mastery of hot words;(2)College students have a high sense of identity and self-confidence in Chinese culture,and have a positive attitude towards Chinese culture and intercultural communication involved in English teaching,but their learning initiative is not obvious;(3)the current situation of cultural education in College English teaching has been improved,and the input of Chinese and Western culture in College English teaching is still in an unbalanced state.Although the content related to Chinese culture is getting more and more attention,there is more content of western culture involved in classroom teaching than that of Chinese culture;(4)the general level of students’ intercultural communicative competence is not high and needs to be further improved through learning and communication.Based on the above research,this thesis provides some implications for culture teaching in College English Teaching.Firstly,in college English teaching,teachers should enhance the positive transfer of Chinese culture through the integration and convergence of Chinese and Western cultures,so as to promote the harmonious development of the target language and mother tongue culture.Secondly,in teaching practice,teachers should guide students to compare the differences between Chinese and Western cultures through organizational activities,and present the Chinese culture materials to students in various forms.Finally,in order to reflect the diversity of cultural ecological teaching and the characteristics of local colleges,some colleges can also try to set up courses related to Chinese culture or local culture.
