Combining the unearthed bamboo slips of Han Dynasty while making thehistorical documents as major research materials, this thesis discusses thedemographic type of migrants in Hexi area based on the previous research of relevanttopic.The thesis is composed of five parts which are as follows:Part one is an introduction to make clear of the backgrounds, aims andmagnificence and current research developments of the theme.At the beginning of Part two, it tells about the situation of Hexi area beforeEmperor Wudi. Emperor Wudi, hoping to change the then situation in Hexi area,drove the Huns out of the Hexi Corridor and reoccupied this area with fourprefectures built there later. Besides, it gives a brief explanation of the political,military and geographic reasons for people migrated into Hexi area.Part three outlines the demographic type of migrants in Hexi area. Somemigrants were not independent in making the choice of migration. They were militarypersonnel and their families or servants, prisoners, and migrants organized by thegovernment due to natural disasters and alike. Other migrants were rather independentin migration; among them were businessmen, guests, the surrendered minorities aswell as few refugees. In this part, the features of the migration are analyzed.Part four refers to the registration and management of migrants in Hexi area afterthe reoccupation by Emperor Wudi. After establishing four prefectures, the thengovernment took actions to register and manage the migrants such as soldiers,prisoners, servants, businessmen and the surrendered minorities.Part five introduces the positive effects and side effects of the people migratedinto Hexi area.
