Under the constant bombardment by the Ming forces, the Mongolians fled to Mobei and founded a khanate during the Hongwu Period that aimed to regain its rule in the central plains. Therefore, it was of paramount importance for the Ming Dynasty to maintain a stronghold in the northern region. Ming Dynasty Emperor Tai Tsu Chu Yuan-chang and Emperor Cheng Tsu Zhu Di hence began to reign in the Hexi area. Even more, Hexi area is Ethnic cornmunities,so this essay analyzes the two Emperors' strategies in Hexi area,which emphasizes on the concept of Emperor Tai Tsu Chu Yuan-chang and Emperor Cheng Tsu Zhu Di.The first part and second part of this essay discusses the complex ethnic relations and a series of measures in Hexi area during the Hongwu and the Yongle Period. In addition, it analyzes the different Hexi area strategies adopted by Emperor Tai Tsu and Emperor Cheng Tsu under various situations,which have the concept of ethnic discrimination. The third part illustrates the establishment of the post-chaise system in Hexi area in Ming Dynasty.The implementation of post chaise system and other policies highlight the importance of transportation in Hexi area during these two periods. In the conclusion, this essay will attempt to make a comparison of the implementation of the post-chaise system and other policies to Hexi Area between the Hongwu Period and the Yongle Period,reveals the ethnic policy of Ming Dynasty can not get rid of the nature of ethnic discrimination.
