In the process of learning Science or engineering majors,overseas students generallyencounter such problems as dull of hearing, slow pace of reading, limited mastery ofprofessional basic vocabulary, limited understanding of special syntactic structure ofScientific Chinese and so on. That is because they gained no Scientific Chinese foundationbefore they start their study on their majors together with Chinese students.Based on describing, analyzing and contrasting the language material fromMathematics,Physics and Chemistry textbooks of PEP edition of High school, the papermainly utilized Modern Chinese theory of master Hu Yushu and Lu Shuxiang,and relatedtheory of Systemic Functional Linguistics, to discuss the language feature that ScientificChinese teaching material have on vocabulary,sentence structure and discourse, thenfurther study on the problems and principles we should pay attention to when we makeCurriculum Provision of Scientific Chinese and write Scientific Chinese. Furthermore, toprovide reference material for the textbook compilation of Scientific Chinese, the paperinvestigated the scientific vocabulary, common correlative collocation and usualmeta-discourse markers in the textbooks, and does some statistics.
