Yu Qiuyu And His Works In The Perspective Of Communicology

In the theoretical perspective of communicology, this thesis explores the topic of Yu Qiuyuand his works systematically and inimitably. It studies the relationship between Yu Qiuyu’s worksand their communication environment, basing on the academic research in Chinese mainland,Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas. In this thesis, Yu Qiuyu and his creations are regarded ascommunication content. They are considered by the interactions of communicators and recipients,as well as the literary with its external environment. This thesis will ultimately reveal a fact that YuQiuyu has made a special contribution to promote the cultural renaissance of the Chinese nationand its modern transformation process. To research scientifically, it combines the internal situationwith the external situation of literature, integrate qualitative research with the quantitative research,and the microscopic research with the macro research.Based on the fieldwork on the cultural relics, Yu Qiuyu made a personalized explanation ofChinese culture from the sight of civilization against barbarism. Part of his explanation has becomeartistic works, which is called Qiuyu prose. They expanded the realm of Chinese contemporaryprose and its social impact owing to containing the quest for universal values and the distinctawareness on readers’ acceptance. Another part of his explanation have conveyed to recipients byYu Qiuyu himself through TV, speech and teaching. They show the author’s unique culturalawareness, and help to establish the identity of the "cultural scholar" with Qiuyu prose. Due tothe hard fieldwork and unique creations, Yu Qiuyu and his works nowadays are very popularamong Chinese people in and out of the mainland.However, cultural media organizations and readers at home and abroad also played animportant role in Yu Qiuyu’s effort to literary-creation, cultural activations and value-reconstruction of contemporary culture. The core reason for the Chinese readers’ reception is theprofoundly cultural identity and the deep expectation of national revival.In the first place, the literary journal Harvest as its gatekeeper in literary production activities,discovered Yu Qiuyu’s potentiality of writing. While basically determined how Qiuyu prose werewritten and published due to its position and publication mode, the journal also helped Yu Qiuyu tochange professional identity and accumulate his own readers.Second, Cross-Strait Publishing Institutions such as Knowledge Press, Elegance Press andWriters Publishing House not only shaped the commercial properties of Qiuyu prose, but also promoted Yu Qiuyu to turn into a particular brand in Chinese culture and literature. Currently, itsbrand influence still widely exists.Then, in order to help to construct and spread the identity and image of the "cultural scholar",CCTV, Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV and online bookstores also participate in Yu Qiuyu’swriting, book-recommendation and culture-communication activities.Finally, readers’ acceptance and feedback confirmed the effectiveness of multiplecommunications that Yu Qiuyu had made. And they also had different effects on the author’spublishing, modification and new creation program.As an excellent cultural scholar, Yu Qiuyu has made his best to explore the value of life andthe meaning of behavior outside the traditional organizations. There is no doubt that he actuallypractices the duty and mission of contemporary Chinese intellectuals, and he also highlights theideal personality of the modern gentleman and the wise mentor. Above all, the author and hisworks provide inspirations to heritage and carry forward Chinese culture in a better way in themoment.
