| Frege’ Theory of Concept occupies an important position in the history of philosophy oflogic. The understanding of the defects of natural language and the study of function are twoimportant premises for Frege’ Theory of Concept. The understanding of defects of naturallanguage prompted Frege to construct the Begriffsschrift, and the study of function promptedhim to form Theory of Concept. A concept is a function whose value is always truth-value. Itis incomplete, needing the complement of an argument. According to the different kinds of thearguments, concepts can be divided into the first-level concepts and the second-level concepts.Concepts strictly distinguish between objects in nature, language expression and features. Anconcept is incomplete, needing complement of object, and an object is complete. Differentrelationships exist between concepts and concepts: a concept could fall under a higher concept, and a concept is subordinate to another concept. Frege’s Theory of Concept has an importantinfluence on philosophy of language. On the one hand, it provides an logical analysis methodfor philosophy of language, on the other hand, it has solved many important problems ofphilosophy of language. |
