The recent years have seen a booming hotel industry in China. According todifferent functions, the hotels in China can be generally divided into four categories, i.e.commercial hotel, residential hotel, convention hall and resort hotel. The latter of the fouris particularly special, for it has the general feature of contemporary tourism, which istheme-oriented and feature-salient so as to meet the needs of various tourists.Accordingly, a translated RHP should also stress function, feature, leisure, pleasure, andcultural knowledge relevant information, only in this way, can it be attractive to targetreaders.Resort Hotel Profile belongs to applied text, which embraces informative functionand operative function. However, most English translations of the resort hotel profiles inChina fail in achieving operative function due to an ignorance of screening the value ofinformation and highlighting feature-relevant information. In view of this, the presentthesis discusses the C-E translation strategies of the resort hotel profiles, with an attemptto provide some effective translation strategies to guide the translation practice inquestion. The present research strives to avoid casual and experience-based summary oftranslation strategy. It is conducted under the general guidance of German functionalisttheory. Then according to the specific characteristics of the resort hotel profiles and thedifference between the Chinese resort hotel profiles and their English counterparts, threetranslation strategic principles are put forward, namely, principle of processing prominentand less valuable information, principle of highlighting theme-related information andprinciple of economic conciseness, and five supportive techniques are further offeredincluding information relocation, information deletion, information adaptation, information simplification and information specification. Therefore, an integratedtheoretical framework is formed for C-E translation of the resort hotel profiles, whichaims to provide theoretical guidance on macro-level, predictive and descriptive principles on the mid-level, and specific translation methods on micro-level. |
