"Autumn" written by Ba Jin is a very excellent work reflecting social problems. Many character conversations in the novel have given life to the novel. Moreover, these conversations are colloquial in content, with distinctive personalized colors.Successful character conversations can also enable readers to have in-depth understanding of various characters in tolerance and number of words.Through character conversations, they can easily and quickly understand the characters and find out their characters. Therefore, they play an important role in creating the characters in the novel.Functionalist Skopos Theory,as a new translation theory of great significance in today’s era, gives the translator freedom in the process of translation to a large extent. The translation also attaches great importance to whether the target readers have the same experience and feelings as the source readers, rather than pursuing formal equivalence with the original. Therefore,Skopos Theory requires the translator to decide the relevant translation strategies, translation skills and translation methods according to his translation purpose.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, this thesis studies the character conversations in Ba Jin’s Autumn and its Uyghur translation(hereinafter referred to as Uyghur translation),and discusses the translation skills in the aspects of word meaning, sentence type, sentence meaning, etc.Because a lot of conversation content can only be understood according to the context, the author also makes a study of the character conversation in the Uyghur translation in combination with the context. The thesis is mainly divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction, including the basis, purpose and significance of the topic selection,as well as the functionalist Skopos Theory and the current research situation of relevant contents under the guidance of the theory. The second part is the theoretical framework and related concepts, specifically elaborating the functionalist Skopos Theory and its three principles as well as the definitions of translation and character conversation. The third part is a brief introduction to the practical material "Autumn" and a concrete example analysis of the three principles of Skopos Theory guiding the character conversation.Based on the three principles of Skopos Theory, the author makes an analysis and discussion from the following aspects: the most basic aim is to meet the needs of the target language readers and conform to the reading habits of the target language readers, the readability of the translation and the acceptability of the translation by the target language readers,so that the target language readers and the original language readers have the same experience and feelings. It proves the feasibility and rationality of the character conversation translationunder the guidance of the three principles of Skopos Theory. The fourth part is a probe into the skills of conversational translation of characters in the Chinese and Uygur versions, combining with the analysis of specific examples, summarizing the translation skills adopted by the translators in the aspect of conversational translation of characters. The fifth part mainly combines the three principles of skopos theory, puts forward mistranslations that obviously violate the three principles in the conversation of the characters and the contents that need to be discussed individually, and puts forward his own opinions, with a view to the conversation of the characters in Chinese-Uighur(hereinafter referred to as Chinese-Uighur translation)The research in this field will be discussed from a new perspective.
