Study On The Contemporary Development Of Tujia Brocade

Historically，Tujia brocade is closely connected with the life of Tujia，inheritedfrom generations orderly in an environment of autarky. However, the circumstances forfor Tujia’s living had been essentially altered by now, the way of production and thefunction of Tujia brocade are changing subsequently.As a product of the agrarian age, traditional handicraft naturally can no longer be aleading role in the modern industrial society. Under the impact of new mode ofproduction, it or be abandoned by directly, or be rudely disturbed in the law of survival.From the early days of new China to the end of the last century, Tujia brocade, as one ofthose handicrafts, has such living conditions too. No matter what kind of treatment itexperienced, traditional handicraft are inevitably becoming endangered, even extinct.After entering the new century, with the increase in the voice of rescuing national andfolk traditional culture, the government has taken a series of measures to protect. As aresult of that, A large number of endangered traditional cultural heritages have beenrescued timely, Tujia brocade is among them.After the dramatic transition of reform and opening up in the past thirty years,people took a brand new attitude towards Tujia brocade. It was a cultural resources whichpromote the economy of minority regions, but now an intangible cultural heritage ofnational-level. During these period the Tujia brocade experienced fundamentally changesof production area, functions, categories, graphic pattens etc. Since people are aware ofthe great value of Tujia brocade, to search for suitable development space incontemporary becomes a target of the efforts of government authorities, scholars andbrocade artists. Therefore, penetrated by method of Artistic Anthropology,comprehensively study the reasons and factors of the changes that occurred of Tujiabrocade has great importance in its protection and inheritance. This essay is consisted of preface, four chapters and conclusion.he preface mainlydwells on the study origin,meaning, previous study,main idea and academic value. Thefirst chapter describes Tujia’s natural surroundings in the Youshui water basin, andintroduced typicality the modern cultural background of the Tujia.Chapter twocomprehensively expounded the change of Tujia brocade in contemporary through theproduction area, functions, categories,weaving technology, graphic pattens etc. Chapterthree introduces the system of inheriting people and training institutes of Tujia brocadeunder the background of intangible cultural heritage, in addition,describes thedevelopment of the only national craft factory in the western Hunan,and compared withthe system of modern inheritance.On the basis of the above,chapter four discuss thedevelopment situation of Tujia brocade under the background of intangible culturalheritage with my own idea.
