A Translation Project Report On Selected Obama’s Speeches

Interpretation refers to the activities that transfer the primitive information withoral expression into the target language. Translators mainly use language as tools,plays a role of medium between different language communicators, to help both sidesto overcome language barriers to communication. Compared with written translation,interpreting practice can fully arouse the enthusiasm of people, compared with thetranslation in terms, interpretation is more flexible, and how to make goodinterpretation has been discussed by scholars. This report is an interpreting practiceby myself, the author chose four classic speech of President Obama. After gettingfamiliar with the content of the speech, the author make the interpretation with theaudio materials. The major interpreting methods are literal translation and freetranslation.with the interpreting process and concrete examples, the author summarized andanalyzed the interpreting difficulties in the process and interpreting strategies from thefollowing aspects:oral-words、 colloquial words、 difficult sentences andcultural-specific words. It is concluded that precise choice of vocabulary, combinedwith the specific background of the target language and culture, understand thespeakers psychology, language style and cultural characteristics of accurate translationare necessary for interpreting.Through this interpretation practice, the translator make the study in theory andpractice, improve the understanding of the interpretation, getting familiar with thetext style of speeches、interpretation strategies and methods, It provides a richertheory support and experience accumulation, advanced level of the interpretation forthe translator with further study.
