Pragmatic Analysis Of Verbal Humor In Comedic Sketches

Sketch is a kind of popular art form, the verbal humor of it not only make a greatimpression on the audience, but also arise interest in language researchers. Literaturewhich research the sketch comedy verbal humor, is analyzed the Characteristics of thevoice, words, rhetoric etc; or provide examples for pragmatics research conclusion.Based on a corpus of sketches, this paper regards the humor of sketch as a specialphenomenon of verbal humor. this paper analyzed pragmatic features of verbal humorin the perspective of speakers and listeners.Within the scope of the sketches in CCTV Spring Festival gala, this paper, from theAngle of the speaker and the hearer, pointed out that several prominent skills ofpragmatic expression in sketch. For instance, the speaker could derogate himself andothers; the speaker could boast himself or flatter others; the speaker could beextremely arrogant to others; the misunderstanding in conversation; the restriction ofcontext and so on. All of them are significant pragmatic expression which could causehumor. Based on the two sides of communication, this paper analyzed semanticdeviation in detail, and summed up three conditions: The listener may misinterpret thediscourse intention of speaker, the listener may distort the discourse intention ofspeaker, and the listener may ignore the discourse intention of speaker deliberately.Finally, this paper analyzed particularly four characteristics of context in sketch:dynamics, mutual knowledge, inconsistency on sides or in time. It aims at explainingthe restriction of context on the humor of sketch.
