The micro blog, as a new tool of communication, is briskly entering into people’s life. It has theepoch-making significance, having exerted great influence on the whole society and people’s life. Andas time goes by, the micro blog will be playing a more and more important role in many aspects of thewhole society. Micro blog is another type of blog, featuring very short posts. Its content is confinedwithin140characters; someone who keeps a micro blog is a micro blogger. Micro blog can enablemicro bloggers to provide updates on their activities, observations and something interesting aroundthem, such as posting a topic “what I am doing now”. Micro blog can also allow micro bloggers toshare information, exchange ideas and leave comments. With great curiosity and interest in micro blog,the author attempts to study the self in the micro blog from the perspective of semiotics.Norbert Wiley proposes semiotic self theory, and regards self as a social, dialogue and reflexivesymbol, combining the propagation mode and characteristic of the micro-blog, this theory helpresearchers analyze the micro bloggers’ realization of self-presentation self awareness and selfcorrection in the micro-blog, and ultimately meet the people’s needs of self-realization..Chapter1introduces micro blog, the background of the study, the significance and theorganization of the study. Chapter2discusses the literature review, some basic definitions andtheoretical framework. This part talks about the study on micro blog both abroad and home, someapproaches and so on. Chapter3manifests the methodology of the thesis. Chapter4analyzes theself-identity in the content of micro blog and self-awareness in micro-blog from three dimensions:reflexivity,consistency, dialogism. And provide readers with a more specific example about the microbloggers’ self-awareness. Chapter5concludes the thesis, and shows the findings according to thecollected data, and points out the limitations of the research.
