Translation criticism (TC) is a kind of criticism which is mainly made upon a specific translation work or some related elements in translation activities, such as translation theory and translation strategy. It is mainly oriented toward translation quality promotion and guidance provision to the readers to choose better translated version. Under this circumstance, the function of TC in translatology tends to be particularly important. Although TC can be dated back to ancient times, it has not grown into a systemic one yet. The reason is that TC in China is mainly made from the translator’s personal experience which is unsystematic and unpersuasive. This phenomenon leads to the lack of systematical theory of TC in China. Meanwhile, the theoretical level of literature criticism (LC) in China is higher than TC. LC is comments on specific literature works and literary creation, and translation is an understanding and re-creation process based on the text, so can plentiful LC traditions and traditional criticism theories be used and converted into TC resources? This is the first problem this thesis will discuss.TC in western countries develops more systemically than that in our country. They have complete academic norms and plentiful theoretical sources which can be used as reference. In order to seek for the development of TC, to learn from them is the route which must be taken. But we can not completely copy western model, we have our tradition. How can Chinese TC find a breakthrough in the communication with western theories? The author’s opinion is:there are two feasible approaches:first, to take western TC system framework as reference, systemize related questions of traditional Chinese LC theory and refine and process those questions, so as to make it systematic and methodization; second, to take traditional Chinese LC theory as reference and convert it into TC theory. The second question of this thesis is how to systemize TC study into a complete and clear system. The author is trying to find out an overall prospect which can express TC system in most direct and audio-visual way. This prospect can clearly express complicated subjects and their relations. An intuitional form is used to construct the TC model and the TC model is used to illustrate the framework of TC. Thus readers can be clear of this system at a glance. At last, what kind of LC theory can provide us as references? How can we use it? The author’s opinion is:the theory of’Six Views’ from Liu Xie’s Literary Mind and Carving of Dragons-Chapter Zhiyin is one of traditional Chinese LC methods and a universal principle which have transferability. Thus, build a model of TC from the perspective of the theory of’Six Views’may be a good way to apply this method. Therefore, in this thesis, the author is trying to build a TC model under the support of the theory of’Six Views’. The author hopes that her efforts will fill the blank of systematical Chinese TC to some extent, and still can provide certain theory guidance for the readers to choose better translated version.
