and art | | Abstract/Summary: | | | Li Changzhi was a distinctive literary theorist and critic in the history of modern Chinese literary criticism, and he was also one of the few professional critics at that time.On the one hand,he was immersed in traditional Chinese ideology and culture,on the other hand,he was deeply influenced by Western philosophy and aesthetics. He advocated "emotional criticism" in the 1930 s and 1940 s,thus building a unique theoretical system of literary criticism, that is,compatible.Rational emotional criticism."Emotion" is a high-frequency word in Li Changzhi’s literary criticism theory and practice.Li Changzhi regards emotional experience as his critical belief and the core of literary criticism."Emotional criticism" is a literary criticism paradigm he established. In Li Changzhi’s literary criticism theory, there are many abstract theoretical concepts. The “emotional type” is one of the core concepts in Li Changzhi’s literary criticism theory and practice, and is also the standard for his literary criticism. This core concept not only embodies ancient Chinese literature. The continuity of the theory can also see Li Changzhi’s absorption and reference to Western culture and literary theory."The rigidity of reason" is a symbolic concept of the gradual deepening of Li Changzhi’s critical theory. This concept embodies a major shift in his literary criticism concept and is also the scientific pursuit of his literary criticism."Critical spirit" is Li Changzhi’s character requirements for critics. This core concept can be summarized as anti-servile and independent and truth-seeking spirit, emphasizing the independent character of critics. These core concepts not only have rich cultural connotations, but also reflect Rigorous theoretical structure.Li Changzhi has many critical articles, and he is able to grasp the emotional factors in literary works, express critical opinions that are different from popular ones, apply his own criticisms to criticism practice, and form his own unique style of criticism.Li Changzhi was unique in the criticism circle in the 1930 s and 1940 s with his passionate style of criticism. This article intends to start from several core concepts in Li Changzhi’s criticism theory and combine his criticism practice, with the intention of further discussing his literary criticism’s theoretical standpoint, scientific pursuit, and cultural conception, and analyzing the value and limitations of his literary criticism,so as to analyze Li Changzhi’s literature Criticism can be used for reference and enlightenment for the construction of Chinese literary criticism and the development of literary theory in the future. The full text is divided into six parts:The introduction part summarizes the topic value and significance of this thesis, the research status of the thesis, the research content and the innovation of this thesis. The first chapter mainly analyzes Li Changzhi’s theoretical position of emotional criticism. The "emotional type" is the theoretical standpoint of Li Changzhi’s emotional criticism. This core concept has its complicated historical traditions and theoretical origins. It is rooted in the long tradition of ancient Chinese culture and literary theory, and it has also been inspired by Wang Guowei’s "realm theory" and the countermeasures. The Enlightenment of Leif Bell’s "Significant Form" Theory.Chapter Two discusses the scientific pursuit of Li Changzhi’s emotional criticism. In the criticism circles of the 1930 s and 1940 s,although some critics actively absorbed the advanced theories and methods in Western literary theory, they only tried to use them in practice. In addition,Li Changzhi strongly opposes the sensible criticism and the criticism of blindly following the world’s customs that existed in the critic circle at that time. Therefore,in the 1940 s,on the basis of his literary criticism standards,Li Changzhi proposed the core concept of "the rigidity of reason" as a theoretical supplement to the "emotional type",and at the same time used it as his literary criticism principle."The rigidity of reason" requires that literary criticism should proceed from the aesthetic attributes of literature itself, and oppose literary criticism centered on utilitarianism and class standpoint.Standing on the firm stand of critics,Li Changzhi tried his best to free literary criticism from the constraints of the social era frame, literary utility, and political rationality, and thus return to the realm of spiritual activity. The theoretical connotation of this principle mainly refers to the critical spirit and the holistic thought of literary criticism in Li Changzhi’s literary criticism. The third chapter discusses Li Changzhi’s literary criticism practice in conjunction with his critical monographs. In the practice of literary criticism,Li Changzhi tried his best to reconcile reason and emotion, using "emotional type" as the core element to test whether literary works embody fundamental emotional forms, and using "the rigidity of reason" to spur himself as a critic of character requirements.Li Changzhi has written many critical monographs in the fields of Chinese classical literary criticism and modern literary criticism. Both his literary works and his critical monographs reflect the core concepts in his critical theory. His classical literary criticism mainly uses personality-style theory and biographical criticism, while modern literary criticism is mainly writer’s theory and book review.Chapter Four puts Li Changzhi’s emotional criticism in the context of Chinese literature and literary theory in the 20 th century, and briefly analyzes the value and limitations of Li Changzhi’s emotional criticism. The concluding part is a summary of the full text and an overall evaluation of Li Changzhi’s emotional criticism. As a critic with firm critical conviction,Li Changzhi should not be ignored. | | Keywords/Search Tags:
