Retrieval-induced forgetting is a special phenomenon of memory. Under the background of retrieval inhibition, studying and exploring its producing mechanism have become the point to which lots of researchers is paying attention. But for primary school students whose inhibition capacity are low, especially primary school students in China, their development trend of the retrieval-induced forgetting and the producing mechanism have received less attention, and need further exploration. The purpose of this study was to investigate the development trend of the retrieval-induced forgetting and the producing mechanism of different grades of primary school students in China. This study included three experiments:There were30participants of every age group taking part in Experiment1.We analyzed the differences of four types of items ((Rp+, Rp-, Nrp+, Nrp-)in each age group(first graders, third graders, fifth graders, young adults). By investigating the retrieval practice success rate, facilitation of practiced items on the final recall test, retrieval-induced forgetting, we explored the development trend of the retrieval-induced forgetting of primary school students in_China.There were60participant of every age group taking part in Experiment2. We analyzed the differences of four types of items ((Rp+, Rp-, Nrp+, Nrp-) by different practice types(Retrieval Practice, Extra Presentations) in each age group (third graders, fifth graders, young adults). By investigating the retrieval practice success rate, facilitation of practiced items on the final recall test, we explored the producing mechanism of the retrieval-induced forgetting of primary school students in China. There were60participants of every age group taking part in Experiment3. We analyzed the differences of four types of items ((Rp+, Rp-, Nrp+, Nrp-) by different practice types (Retrieval Practice, Dual Task) in each age group(fifth graders, young adults). By investigating the retrieval practice success rate, the updating task success rate, facilitation of practiced items on the final recall test, we explored the type of producing mechanism of the retrieval-induced forgetting of primary school students in China. From the results and the analysis, we concluded that:(1)There were retrieval-induced forgetting in grade3, grade5, young adults, but not in grade1.(2)The producing mechanism of the retrieval-induced forgetting in grade5and young adults was inhibition, but was interference in grade3.(3)The type of producing mechanism of the retrieval-induced forgetting in grade5and young adults was inhibitory control.
