In the context of globalization, as a conundrum in the translation, cultureconveying has received increasing attention among scholars and translators. Othercountries can have a further understanding of China through the Chineseculture-loaded words. However, as Chinese particular economy, society, culture,religion and history are reflected by the culture-loaded words, how to fully convey theconnotative meaning of culture-loaded words in another language is a problem for thetranslators. Based on the author’s own translation work-Qingyi, this thesis aims toillustrate the rendition of Chinese culture-loaded words from the perspective ofRelevance Theory.Based on the case study of the author’s own translation work, the thesis attemptsto apply the Relevance Theory to analyze the problems in the translation ofculture-loaded words, and proposes some new approaches to deal with theculture-loaded words: direct translation and indirect translation.
