With the continuous promotion of Chinese culture “going out” strategy and the expansion of the influence of the “One Belt And One Road” initiative, the number of the translation of Chinese folk culture texts is also increasing. This kind of article contains a large number of Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words. They are the difficulties in the translation process whose translation quality directly affects the speed of the spreading of Chinese culture to the world and the acceptance of the world to Chinese culture. Therefore,it is important to explore the translation methods of Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words. This report studies the Chinese-English translation of Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words in Confucius Institute. In the report, the author first sorts out concepts related to folklore and culture-loaded words, and on this basis, defines Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words. Then, the author analyzes original texts and the target audience.Confucius Institute aims to introduce Chinese culture to the world, and its audience is mostly foreign readers who want to learn Chinese. Therefore,in the process of translation, foreignization is adopted as the main translation strategy and domestication as the assisted one. Finally, when translating the Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words, the author uses the translation methods of literal translation, free translation, transliteration, annotation and borrowing translation according to the specific context and the principle of optimal relevance.Through the description of the whole translation process and the analysis of typical examples, the report discusses the translation methods of Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words from the perspective of relevance theory. The report shows that the analysis and preparation before translation is a key step to ensure the quality of the translation. In the process of translation, the translator should strike a balance between the intention of original text authors and the expectation of target language readers,so as to ensure the target texts will conform to the optimal relevance. The report is expected to provide references for the translation of Chinese folkloric culture-loaded words.
