Hu Gengshen put forward the eco-translatology theory for the first time in2006and pointed out that it is an ecological approach to translation studies as wellas an interdisciplinary study combining the ecology and translatology. This paper conducts an analysis of the classical Chinese poetry translationfrom the perspective of eco-translatology with the methodology of case study andcomparison and particularly takes the English versions of Feng Qiao Ye Bo as theobject of the research to examine the translation strategies of classical Chinesepoetry with a view to making a little contribution to spreading the traditionalChinese culture in a better manner. At first, the thesis introduces the background, significance, innovation, methodology and structure of this study, and then it examines the previousresearch studies at home and abroad on the topic of classical Chinese poetry, theEnglish versions of Feng Qiao Ye Bo and the eco-translatology theory.Furthermore, chapter three conducts a deep analysis of classical Chinese poetrytranslation in the aspects of translator’s adaptation to the translationaleco-environment and translator’s selection about the target text. Particularly, translator’s adaptation to the translational eco-environment covers the adaptationto the source text, to the author and readers and to the competence and knowledge;translator’s selection about the target text is described from the linguisticdimension, the cultural dimension and the communicative dimension. Based onthe third chapter, the author then tries to criticize the English versions of theclassical Chinese poetry Feng Qiao Ye Bo from the aspects of multi-dimensionaltransformation, feedbacks from readers and translator’s quality with thetheoretical framework of eco-translatology. Finally, the author puts forward thesuggestion on the translation strategies of classical Chinese poetry: literaltranslation, free translation and transliteration.
