Architectural carving is a major decorative characteristic for Shanxi courtyard, which is one of the traditional houses in China. The style of Shanxi brick-carving, which is not only implicative simple but also fine and smooth, both have manly and dignified of northern and exquisite and delicate of southern. In this little space, it contains landscape, trees, characters and scenes of life and so on, and indicates abundant sense of space level; in this little space, it shows consummate skills, profound aesthetic sensibilities and love of life.According to practical investigate, this article taking Qiao’s Grand Courtyard, Chang’s Manor and Wang’s Grand Courtyard as examples to analysis. To research and analysis the spatial space level of Shanxi brick carving, this article through expression, content, carving techniques, moral and pleasant form perspectives. At present, brick carving is a new research field, and still has a study space. This article mixes knowledge and feeling of author, mainly discusses that how brick-carving arts shows abundant levels and spatial space levels. Hoping it is value to help the others arts design and developing.
