With the popularization of mass media, the development of communication technology and the international communication, simultaneous interpreting has been applying for kinds of TV programs. Compared with conference interpreting, the working environment of TV simultaneous interpreting is more complicated. The interpreter often has to undergo emergency news interpreting without preparation or interpreting for a long time without a partner. Moreover, TV media has its own requirements for the voice which is a challenge for the interpreter. Combined with context adaptation, the author classifies the context of simultaneous interpreting into linguistic context and non-linguistic context. Linguistic context refers to the coherence and cohesion in target language. And non-linguistic context includes the cognition context of the interpreter, social context and physical world.Materials adopted in this thesis are the speech by President Obama at the Democracy National Convention, the Speech about the Death of Osama bin laden and Jacques Rogge’s Speech on the London Olympic Ceremony. The author classifies errors in videos, and analyzes causes of errors in terms with context adaptation. The language competence and understanding of the context will exert influence on the coherence and cohesion of target language. High density speech, complex, sentence structure and external factors will affect the cognition world of the interpreter; poor preparation and lack of journalism will cause the violation of social context. Additionally, long time interpreting and complex working environment can result in errors. Through cases study, the author tends to suggest coping tactics to adapt the context, hence enhancing the interpreter’s performance as well as optimizing interpreting quality.
