Simultaneous interpreting, according to Chernov (1994:140) is "A complex type of bilingual, meaning-oriented communicative verbal activity, performed under time constraints and with a strictly limited amount of information processed at an externally control led pace." TV simultaneous interpreting is a special kind of simultaneous interpreting. The deepening of globalization and the diversifying of social activities have led to TV simultaneous interpreting becoming a new and important Interlingua and cross-cultural form of communication, which makes it more urgent and important to promote research and studies in TV simultaneous interpreting as well as to improve the relevant training systems. It is a well-established fact that errors or blunders are unavoidable in the process of simultaneous interpreting, even for an experienced and professional interpreter. TV simultaneous interpreting has its own characteristics different from conference simultaneous interpreting. The TV interpreter faces particular difficulties. There are three kinds of errors in TV simultaneous interpreting:loss of information, erroneous information and slip of the tongue. A considerable number of these kinds of mistakes and errors chosen from TV broadcast of the video of the simultaneous interpreting of the2010State of the Union Address will be analyzed in this thesis as examples.Daniel Gile modeled simultaneous interpreting as a process consisting of four Efforts, the Listening and Analysis Effort, the Short-term Memory Effort, the Speech Production Effort and the Coordination Effort. According to his Effort Model, interpreting can proceed smoothly only when these different efforts are coordinated. Guided by this Effort Model, the author of this thesis will present different errors of TV simultaneous interpreting, attempt to provide a theoretical explanation of TV interpreter’s errors in the process of interpreting, and analyze the deeper causes behind them. In addition, the author will suggest a few basic coping tactics during TV simultaneous interpreting for the improvement of those errors.
